Yo listen up, here's a story. About a little guy who lives in a blue world...

It's no secret that the Democratic Party is going through troubling times right now. My how times have changed since the triumphalism in the full flush of Democratic victories in 2008. There's a reason why the Democrats' popularity took a nosedive in 2009 and early 2010.

Read why.

Yes, I know the proper term is "bimmer", but I'm trying to make a point. Depending on who you are, you care more about the make of the car rather than the model. There's a reason why.

Read about it.

And yet...

I'm not going to write a pack of lies and half-truths to make me feel better. That's loser-talk. We lost and Canada won. And that's all I have to say about that.

Men's hockey gold medal game. 3 PM. This is it. The biggest single event of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. I know it, you know it, and the guys who are going to scalp tickets outside the gate for at least 3k a pop know it.

USA versus Canada. America against America's hat. Perpetual powerhouse versus perpetual inferiority complex.

Since it's impossible to get the most gold medals, we might as well deliver a kick to the shin known as the Canadian ego and beat them at their own sport on their own field (or rink?). It's....SCHADENFREUDE! S-C-H-A-D-E-N-F-R-E-U-D-E! (Google "avenue q schadenfreude")

Every other day of the week I'm an intelligent, well-spoken and well-read fellow. But tomorrow, I'll be fist pumping, beer belching, dick measuring, and chest thumping with the best of them.

You picked the right one, baby!

It can really frustrate me how people can pass judgment so easily. Whether they judge someone else or rate their own capability/personality, they're not really passing judgment so much as inflating their own ego.

That ego salving probably happens the most when people judge decisions. You can read the short about that phenomenon. Maybe it'll change the way you think about other people and the decisions that they make.

Well, ladies and gentlemen we're not here to indulge in fantasy but in political and economic reality. America, America has become a second-rate power.

Guess which movie I stole that from?

But it's funny, kind of. At the time of its production, political and economic commentators were distressing over the delta between Federal outlays and receipts. And yet, today, the numbers are even more staggering but it hasn't really hit home yet.

Well, it's about to. The Federal government is on a collision course with fiscal disaster and we're all being taken along for the ride.

Give credit to Disney. They know their stuff, which is why they churn out star after star from their talent manufacturing factory.

Yes, Virginia. They all want to mislead you into making poor financial decisions

Too many people have low finance IQ. That's why people like Suze Orman are popular. It's time to fight back.

Right now.

A new short has been written. Given today's highly politicized...politics, we usually have a bunch of people on both the "left" and "right" arguing about the Constitutionality of certain laws and would-be laws (sadly, the latter are just bills, yes they're only bills).

But they're just farting in the wind. Time to fight back. Arm yourself with interesting arguments and logic by reading the short. Impress your neighbors, friends, co-workers, and more!

Well, all of the entries I had previously had in the old essential reading section have been reinserted plus two new additions. Go to the essential reading page and find out for yourself.

Bonus points if you got that reference. But today, I want to talk about Grey Goose and the marketing brilliance behind it.

You can read the short right here.

We're (I'm) back and better than ever! The seven of you who visited this site before its redesign are probably wondering what changed. Well, the aesthetics sure haven't, considering I'm too cheap to hire a professional graphics designer.

If you have a really good memory, you'll find that many of the original short essays posted did not survive the inevitable Purging. But new stuff will be posted on a regular basis. I anticipate the most active section will be the news blog, but expect a new short essay every week or so.

As I re-insert the old short essays (henceforth known as "shorts"), check back frequently. And pester your friends to visit here as well.
